Therapeutic Riding
Welcome to the City Ranch, Baltimore's Horseback Riding Program with a Purpose!
About Therapeutic Riding
Terms such as "Therapeutic Riding", "Equine Assisted Therapy", "Hippotherapy", and "Equine Assisted Learning" often seem interchangeable, and this can be confusing to those who seek to understand the similarities and differences between what instructors and equine facilities may have to offer. There are two main categories of "Equine Therapy".
Equine-Assisted Therapy/ Hippotherapy
This requires a licensed professional- this professional might be a physical or occupational therapist, a mental health professional, a psychologist, or a speech and language pathologist. These are treatment focused, rehabilitative sessions designed and carried out by licensed healthcare providers using horses and/or ponies to assist clients in reaching their fullest potential.
Therapeutic Riding/ Equine-Assisted Activities
These activities do not require the participation of a licensed professional. Therapeutic riding is defined by PATH Intl. as an "activity intended to contribute positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being of individuals with special needs."
What We Offer
The City Ranch offers therapeutic riding and horsemanship. Our Instructors and Facilitators will work closely with you and/or your child to develop individualized, private sessions that are aligned with your goals and desired outcomes. We urge both current and potential students/clients to communicate with their healthcare provider(s) to ensure the student is cleared for participation while addressing any potential concerns that may arise. We are open to suggestions from parents and medical professionals alike, and we will try our best to accommodate reasonable requests as long as they fall within the current guidelines established for students and instructors here at City Ranch Inc.
